7/31/05 Update
On July 7th Daphne underwent surgery to repair her dislocated hip.
The orthopedic surgeon was able to repair the joint by inserting a pin
thru the femoral head attaching it to the acetabulum. Unfortunately,
due the the extensive damage and loss of tissue mass the repair is fragile
and Daphne's long term prognosis is not as good as we had hoped.
Daphne will never ever be able to navigate steps, or stairs, or walk
further than a few feet at a slow pace and this after months and months of
physical therapy and rehabilitation.
While Daphne is stronger
than she was 3 weeks ago, she remains unable to get up from her pillow
without help. Daphne's daily routine includes being lifted from her
pillow, helped outside for potty breaks, twice daily physical therapy
sessions with 1-2 times a week trip to the PT rehab facility - a major
undertaking due to the time needed to load her into the car, along with
wheelchair etc. As of yesterday, once outside Daphne was able
to stand alone for a few minutes and take a few steps without assistance.
We would like to express
our gratitude to Barb Cook for accepting responsibility of Daphne and for
all the work she's done and will continue to do. And to all the wonderful
Affie enthusiasts who contributed toward her care.
Thank you!

property owner seeking retribution. So far there has been no
response. 7/31 - As expected both owner of
the Rottweiler and property owner deny any liability. Peggy is
proceeding with legal action and expects to file court papers within the
next couple of weeks..
6/26/05 update
- It's been a busy week for Daphne
at the Camp Cook Rehabilitation Center in Lexington KY. .
Thanks to Dr. Eric Headley the mystery of Daphne's lack of mobility has
been solved. Diagnosed with a dislocated hip, Daphne will require
additional surgery as soon as she is strong enough. We are
extremely grateful to the folks at
Doggon' Wheels for
their generosity in donating a K9 wheelchair to assist Daphne in her
recovery. Thanks to their generosity, Daphne will be able to
exercise which will help her to continue to loose weight as she prepares
for and recovers from hip surgery. This week Daphne will undergo a
few more tests in preparation for surgery.
6/17/05 update -
5 weeks after being attacked, Daphne's initial wounds continue to
heal however she remains unable to walk. Unable to take Daphne home
due to the number of stairs at home, Daphne's owner transported her from
the Newport animal clinic to AHRCO volunteer, Barb Cook who volunteered to help with
rehabilitation.
