Senor
Duke~ |
|
UPDATE: 8/5/2006 Senor Duke left us today for
Rainbow Bridge. He died peacefully in his sleep while snoozing in his
favorite bed. He surprised us all, and fought a gallant
battle. His extended life can only be attributed to the care he
received from his hospice family.
Our
Spanish-speaking Affie, Senor Duke came to us in February 2004
at 10 years old after enduring a lifetime of
neglect and misuse from a backyard breeder. As
of 2/11/05 Duke continues to battle heart disease. A recent change in
medication has given him a reprieve.
During his intake physical examination, he
was diagnosed with heart disease and given a short life expectancy.
As is our practice, rather than being offered for adoption, he was sent to
Affie Hospice. Thank you Al and Carmel Barninger, and Brenda Haines and family in Girard Ohio for
giving Duke all that he missed during his early years.

A Parting Prayer
|
Dear Lord, please open your
gates and call St. Francis
to come escort this beloved companion
across the Rainbow Bridge.
Assign him to a place of honor,
for he has been a faithful servant and
has always done his best to please me.
Bless the hands that send him to you,
for they are doing so in love and compassion,
freeing him from pain and suffering.
Grant me the strength not to dwell on my loss.
Help me remember the details of his life
with the love he has shown me.
And grant me the courage to honor him by
sharing those memories with others.
Let him remember me as well
and let him know that I will always
love him.
And when it's my time to pass over into your paradise,
please allow him to accompany those
who will bring me home.
Thank you, Lord, for the gift of him
companionship and for the time we've had
together.
And thank you, Lord, for granting me the
strength to give him
to you now.
Amen.
